Athletic Trainer

BCHS Athletics is one of the only high schools in Kern County to have a full time certified athletic trainer. Certified Athletic Trainers hold at least a four year degree and must pass a national board exam. The primary responsibilities of a certified athletic trainer are the assessment, care, prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Our certified athletic trainer is at all home contests as well as practices.

Joel Oetker comes to BCHS from a cooperative agreement with Terrio Therapy-Fitness, Inc. with full certification since 1997 and extensive experience ranging from high school athletics to professional athletics. He has been employed as a certified athletic trainer for the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Bakersfield Blitz arena football team. Oetker also has experience working in Div. I college athletics such as Iowa State University, The University of Northern Iowa, Arkansas State University and CSU Bakersfield. Locally, at the high school level, Oetker has worked at Liberty, Garces and BCHS. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association since 2002. He is a great asset to our athletic community.
