BCHS Athletics is one of the only high schools in Kern County to have a certified athletic trainer. Certified Athletic Trainers hold at least a four year degree and must pass a national board exam. The primary responsibilities of a certified athletic trainer are the assessment, care, prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Our certified athletic trainer is at all home contests as well as practices.
Shaun Mirza serves as BCHS' athletic trainer. Prior to coming to BCHS he worked as the head athletic trainer for the Bakersfield Jam, a local NBA Development League team. He has a master's degree in athletic training and completed a two-year graduate assistantship at Arizona State University while working with Div. I football, tennis and gymnastics athletes. Mirza's bachelor's degree in athletic training is from Illinois State University where he worked with ISU's football and baseball programs. He is also a U.S. Army veteran and paratrooped and served on active duty with overseas tours from 2000-03.
