Casey Bloomquist won't ever forget his first collegiate appearance in Bakersfield. Bloomquist, a freshman right-handed pitcher for Cal Poly, allowed two hits in six-plus innings Tuesday and earned his first collegiate win in the Mustangs' 5-2 win over Cal State Bakersfield at Hardt Field. Cal Poly, ranked between 20th and 25th in three of the four main college baseball polls, improved to 22-8. CSUB is 21-12. Bloomquist, a Bakersfield Christian High School graduate, had appeared in only two games and pitched only 5-2/3 innings all season prior to Tuesday.

Each of BCHS' six fall sports teams earned the CIF Central Section Team Academic Award for 2012-13. To reach this achievement, each of the teams averaged a 3.0 GPA or greater. The combined average for all teams was a 3.4 GPA. Eighty-four students competed on a fall sports team, which is 20 percent of BCHS' student body.

It was easily the best memory Ryan Clanton had made in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum since he saw Stanford upset USC in 2007 -- only then, he never thought he'd actually be on the field in uniform. Clanton, a starting guard for Oregon's undefeated Ducks and a Bakersfield Christian graduate, helped plow the way for a record-setting offensive performance in Oregon's 62-51 victory Saturday over USC.

The Bakersfield Christian girls tennis coach watched nervously as a close match played out, one that would determine if the Eagles would extend their stretch of dominance or need to start another one. Sophomores Brittany Aguilar and Anneka Tanus, BCHS’s No. 3 doubles team in the Division III Central Section final against Ridgeview, finally gave their coach some relief when they watched a wide return from their Wolf Pack counterparts. The project began as a short story and morphed into an exciting fund raising adventure for Emily and her family who sought out sponsors to promote and finance the project. A local high school athlete tragically passed away nearly three years ago, and on Tuesday afternoon, students, teachers and staff at his high school gathered to remember him. The Bakersfield Christian High School class of 2010 purchased a scoreboard for the junior varsity baseball field and named it after Patrick Allen, who was a football and baseball player at BCHS. The Kern County Science Fair was held on Tuesday, March 29 at the Rabobank Arena. BCHS came home with two first place awards, two second place, and two honorable mention awards. Taking first place were Sam Taylor and Jaston Epp with their project on sorting algorithms, as well as Nicole Foy and Mary Woodall with their plant biology project. First place projects receive a monetary award of $250. In second place was Greg Merrill for his project dealing with ear bud usage and hearing in teenagers and Gathenji Njoroge with his magnetic levitation project. Greg also received the Kern County Science Foundation Senior Scholarship Award of $800. Honorable Mention went to Jacob Braun and Dylan Fisher for their project in Chemistry, and also to Anna Haupt and Shannon Foy for their work. A special award of $100 from CAPCO went to Nicole Foy and Mary Woodall. First and second place Science Fair winners can qualify for the State Science Fair and will be notified soon.
