Bus Rules

The following are the School Bus Rules governing pupil transportation.

We ask that you review these rules with your son and/or daughter, and if you have any questions, contact Gerrit Hilvers, Campus Services Director/Transportation Supervisor.
  • Students should be at their assigned school bus stop 5 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time to ensure not missing the bus.
  • If your student misses the bus, your student may use the next bus stop to get on the bus. The bus is only allowed to stop at the designated bus stop locations. The bus driver will not be able to stop the bus if already in route to the next stop.
  • The Transportation Department will not allow students riding the bus to change their designated bus stop without written authorization from their parent or legal guardian. A note must be presented to the school office and to the bus driver indicating the student's name and the bus stop where the student may board or leave the bus.
  • The student’s name must be on the bus roster in order to ride the school bus. The name is entered on the roster upon payment of the bus fee. Students will not be allowed to ride the school bus without payment.

Bus FAQs

List of 11 frequently asked questions.

  • Q: If you have qualified for financial aid, will you also qualify for bus transportation at the same discount?

No. Our costs for transportation prohibit allowing a discount at this time.
  • Q: Who will pay a bus transportation fee?

All bus riders must pay a fee for transportation.
  • Q: Will the bus routes and schedules stay the same?

We expect bus routes to remain as listed on the application form. The times may be slightly revised after the first week of school, if necessary. The bus routes may be viewed on the BCHS website or in the school office during office hours.
  • Q: May a student use a bus stop other than the one closest to his/her home?

Parents may choose any of the designated bus stops. The stop should be noted on the application, so that the route may be finalized. We also ask you to designate the stop so that we may comply with your wishes as parents. If a student wants to get off at a different stop to go home with a friend, the student must bring a note from their parent/guardian.
  • Q: May a student without a bus pass ride home with a friend?

The policy allows periodic use of busses for guests as long as space is available and there is written permission by the parent.
  • Q: How much will bus transportation cost?

The bus fee for the current school year is $540 per student ($60/month).
  • Q: Am I able to get a refund?

Refunds will be given only if the student withdraws from BCHS. Requests must be made in writing and include the student’s name, last day of attendance and reason for the request. Send refund requests to the Business Office.

Refunds will not be given for unused days for illness, suspension from school, or loss of riding privileges due to violation of the bus rules.

There will be no proration of bus fees.
  • Q: Are there any one-way pass options?

Yes. As long as space allows, a one-way pass at approximately half price will be allowed. Indicate on the application morning or afternoon, and we will notify you if accepted. Please see the options on the bus application.
  • Q: How do I apply for bus transportation?

For all students a School Bus Transportation Application must be completed in order to be eligible for bus transportation. You may apply for bussing for more than one student; however, a form must be completed for each student. Please mail the application(s), along with a check to BCHS. OR you may drop off the application at the Business Office no later than August 15. Bus fees MUST be paid in advance.
  • Q: Is there limited room on the bus?

Yes, our bus capacity is 52 students. The primary purpose of bus transportation is to provide access for families on the east side of town. Priority will be given to students who live the farthest distance from school.
  • Q: What is the transportation policy regarding fog delays or early dismissal?

Students will be picked up and dropped off at their assigned bus stops on those days, in the same time frame as a regularly scheduled day.
