Students receive up to 10 credits per year toward the physical education graduation requirement by particpating in sports in lieu of traditional PE class. Though many students play sports, and often multiple seasons, only 20 credits over their four years will be counted toward their GPA. Additional semesters an athlete is on a team will be reflected with a letter grade of "P" on their transcript to show partcipation, however it will not be calculated in their GPA beyond the 20 credit allotment.

Since students receive either a letter grade or participation credit, athletics is classified as an academic department.
